Public safety professionals often hear, “That’s what you signed up for,” a phrase used to dismiss challenges, trauma, or unfair expectations. This session explores the impact of that mindset on wellness, retention, and workplace culture. Participants will learn strategies to set boundaries, reframe conversations, and strengthen resilience—while leaders will gain tools to replace dismissive language with meaningful support.

Learning Objectives:

  • By the end of this session participants will be able to identify common ways the phrase "that's what you signed up for" is used to dismiss the challenges they face.
  • By the end of this session participants will be able to differentiate between job responsibilities and unfair or unsafe expectations.
