In five months, York County 911 hired and trained 24 new dispatchers, overcoming staffing shortages and improving morale. Through collaboration with HR, social media outreach, job fairs, and employee referrals, recruitment became more effective. Streamlined hiring and pre-class sit-alongs enhanced candidate experience. Back-to-back academies for Call-Takin, supported by our APCO Project 33–certified program, ensured consistent, high-quality training. Strong mentorship, recognition, and morale initiatives helped boost retention and teamwork. As a result, the center is now nearly fully staffed, more efficient, and better equipped to serve the community with professionalism and dedication.
Learning Objectives:
How to manage hiring and recruiting a large number of people together. Using social media, making flyers, staff recruiting and bonuses for recruitment. At the end participants will understand the importance of recruiting and refreshing flyers and social media to bring in more applicants.
How to keep onboarding on a rolling basis as opposed to everyone starting at the same time in a classroom. Managing trainees at different levels all in one class, working more one on one with trainees before putting them all together. At the end of the class participants will have an understanding on how to break up the training to make self-learning and one on one taught and which items to save as a group.
Mentorship. Getting your employees onboard to do mentorship, Have the tools to show your current employees why this drastic change is needed, how everyone can be involved and how it will benefit them in the end.
