Information Services and Warning Officer Technician

Alexander (“Alex”) Potts serves as the Information Systems & Warning Officer Technician at the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA). In this role, he ensures the State Emergency Operations Center remains fully prepared for both notice and no-notice incidents. Utilizing a suite of advanced emergency management and situational awareness systems, Alex helps build and maintain a comprehensive common operating picture, providing senior leadership with timely, actionable intelligence during emergencies.
With extensive experience in emergency management, public safety technology, and crisis communications, Alex has played an integral role in strengthening Rhode Island’s ability to respond to natural disasters, severe weather events, and other critical incidents. Throughout his career at RIEMA, he has served in multiple operational and technical capacities, including as a Communications Technician.
In addition to his work with RIEMA, Alex serves as Assistant Chief of the Hianloland Fire Company, bringing more than 20 years of experience as a Firefighter/EMT and fire service officer. He is also actively involved with the Rhode Island Southern Firefighters League, where he currently serves as Treasurer.
A graduate of Franklin Pierce University, Alex combines technical expertise, operational leadership, and a deep commitment to public service. His practical knowledge of crisis information management, warning systems, and interagency coordination makes him a respected voice on topics including data-driven emergency preparedness, technology integration in public safety communications, and building resilient response capabilities.
Alex is passionate about advancing innovative tools and technologies that support first responders and emergency managers nationwide. He looks forward to sharing insights, lessons learned, and best practices.
